Whether we see it as the cutting edge of contemporary art or the worst blight on our urban environment graffiti plays a large part in the public realm debate. For us at Citysquared it’s a double edged sword, on one hand it helps us to understand the views and thoughts of a group of public realm users whilst on the other hand we have to take very seriously the antisocial aspect of process. So for this part of our blog we intend to focus on the small scale human aspects of the process. We will avoid the big art based pieces which are covered very well by sites such as www.woostercollective.com and post snipits of everyday life that we come across. In particular we are interested in ‘grassroots’ graffiti; writings, drawings or even advice that links peoples thoughts and ideas to the physical aspects of their environment.
