Citysquared’s furniture lines the interior streets of Middlesbrough College. 01.12.2009

Citysquared was delighted to be invited to create a scheme for Middlesbrough College, to adorn its expansive interior streets, using a wide range of our products. The innovative new Further Education College was the perfect showcase for our latest ranges, many of which explore different means of social interaction and seating positions. We are particularly pleased to see the new additions are a big success with the students.

New Eatsuite range starts it's first term at modern FE College. 08.10.2009

Citysquared is excited to announce the installation of our new Eatsuite range of products, into a recently opened Further Education College. The Eatsuites, accompanied by a number of bespoke products from Citysquared, are an extremely popular addition to the vast interior streets of this innovative new building.

Citysquared is excited to announce the introduction of our new Granite ranges! 02.02.2009

After much demand for new and innovative granite products for the public realm, we were pleased to respond with the introduction of a number of new granite products. Orison, Solace, Basic Inset, and our granite Block & Staple ranges, all of which are made to order, give us the freedom to accommodate all seating requirements. These additions to our seating collection are highly durable and extremely low maintenance due to the nature of this natural material.

It gives us the opportunity to move beyond the formality of our main website and try to convey the sometimes unusual mix of ideas, observations and research that feeds the design of our products and our business philosophy. Following a number of requests to share elements of our research, Citysquared’s Creative Director has developed a programme of CPD seminars available to architects, landscape architects, councils and public realm managers. These seminars cover a wide range of topics and are aimed at providing ideas and examples at the forefront of street furniture design and public realm use. Hello Stranger benches excel at Failsworth School, Manchester! 16.10.2008

Citysquared are pleased to have supplied twelve Hello Stranger benches to the recently completed Failsworth School. Providing contemporary products to modern schools is always a pleasure, but the welcome with which they were received here was truly exceptional. It was extremely rewarding to see the product so readily embraced by the children, encouraging different forms of interaction between them. By creating clusters of the benches, the school has also in effect achieved a traffic calming measure within the expanse of the bustling atrium.

The projects page has now been updated with images of the recently completed Home Office building, at the Riverside Exchange, Sheffield. Photographs of Citysquared’s Basic benches and bespoke granite planters & benches, which formed part of this extensive project, are now available to view.

The Basic bench proves its versatility once again! Citysquared develop a curved Basic bench for Islington Council.  25.07.2008

Citysquared were delighted to be asked by Islington council, to adapt our ever popular Basic bench, for a curved application. We were pleased to supply eleven of these curved Basic benches, for use in the public space between Agdon Street & St John Street, Islington. The project required the bespoke benches to be wall mounted on predetermined granite platforms, meaning three different radii of curved bench were required. The curved Basic is also available as a freestanding product, to suit various schemes.

Citysquared Deville planters installed at Herries Road shopping promenade, Sheffield. 16.06.2008

Citysquared were pleased to supply nine Deville planters to Sheffield City Council, which have now been installed at the shopping promenade on Herries Road. The Planters, and trees within, help to define the shopping space as separate from the bustling neighbouring road, making the experience all the more pleasant.

Citysquared’s street furniture 3d CAD models can now be accessed by everyone! 05.06.2008

Citysquared has uploaded its street furniture CAD models onto the Google 3d Warehouse. This offers an opportunity to view our products interactively through 360’ views. The models are accessed via the free downloadable programme Sketchup.

Breaking Boundaries…Citysquared has supplied bespoke street benches and bollards on this pioneering scheme in Ashford, Kent. 27.05.2008

Citysquared has been working in collaboration with the project lead artist John Atkin to develop a series of bespoke benches and bollards for Elwick road, as part of the Breaking Boundaries development of Ashford in Kent. The project is set to alter the way pedestrians and cars use urban space by using the principal of ‘shared space’ to redevelop a problematic 1970’s ring road. The first elements of the street furniture are being installed now.

Citysquared to supply granite benches to new Home Office building in Sheffield. 23.04.08

Citysquared is pleased to have supplied street furniture to the new Home Office building in Sheffield. The scheme includes Citysquared’s Basic bench and a number of bespoke granite planters. The Riverside Exchange scheme is a Wilson Bowden development close to the city centre and will house 1000 Home Office staff from across Sheffield. Images coming soon!

Wakefield's Crown Court Yard wins top award. 10.04.08

The Crown Court Yard scheme has won a top award in the Best Refurbishment (Building or Environmental) category. Citysquared was pleased to supply its Basic range of street furniture throughout the scheme. Wakefield MDC said “The refurbishment has achieved the highest standards of quality and design, enhanced the character of the city, removed clutter and created a safe and inviting environment for visitors…and has set a high standard for public areas in the city.”

3D CAD drawings provided on Citysquared website 18.02.08

Citysquared has provided access to 3D CAD drawings for its seating product range. Our aim is to assist Architects, Planners, Specifiers or anyone who wishes to use our products in their projects. The CAD files are easily accessible and enable the user to place the desired product(s) directly into their own working drawings, complete with individual named layers for when they are to be rendered as part of a photo realistic scene. Other Product files will follow shortly.

The 21st century streetscene 01.10.2007

We believe that information technology will have an increasing impact on our streets. With this in mind, Citysquared has formed a close association with technology and new media company Interactive Interface. The aim is to design and develop new and exciting applications for the urban environment. Watch this space!

Citysquared Basic range installed in Crown Court Yard, Wakefield. 11.09.2007

The Crown Court Yard scheme is located within Wakefields historic yards and is the exemplar project for a co-ordinated programme of improvements to streets and spaces within Wakefield city centre. Wakefield MDC set out their aim as follows: “to achieve high standards and quality of design, which includes a range of modern seating”. To achieve this, they chose Citysquared’s Basic range of contemporary street furniture for the scheme, including freestanding and wall mounted benches, with and without backs and a number of Basic litter bins. New SciTec building, Oundle School, Peterborough. 07.08.2007

We are delighted that Oundle School decided to add the finishing touches to its new SciTec building by placing a series of Hello Stranger and Rodeo benches within the hallways and corridors for the students to use in and around lessons. The striking contemporary building was officially opened on 7th September 2007 by HRH the Duke of Gloucester.

Citysquared’s award winning Cantilever installed at new Irish government building. 16.06.2007

Citysquared was pleased to supply ten Cantilever benches and bespoke grills to a newly built Irish government building. The building has prised itself on being energy efficient by reducing consumption by more than 50%. The benches and Grills have been placed in the main atrium, the primary area that is responsible for reducing the environmental impact of the building.

Lloyd’s trees in the city project, London Street, EC3. 21.03.2007

Citysquared has collaborated with Lloyd’s, the worlds leading insurance specialist, as part of a project to improve the quality of the city environment and raise awareness of the issues surrounding climate change. Five sustainable wooden seats were etched with poems on the subject of climate change using the art of Pyrography. The seats have been installed adjacent to Fenchurch Street train station. Citysquared launch new “Basic” range of street furniture 01.11.2006

Citysquared is pleased to announce the launch of the new Basic range of street furniture. The Basic range has been designed in consultation with local authorities to produce a range of design-led, cost effective street furniture suitable for a wide range of public realm applications. The Basic range consists of a flexible seat which can be configured in a variety of arrangements with or without arm and back rests, a litter bin and planters in a number of sizes. The range employs stainless steel frames and tough hardwood slats to provide low maintenance, high design solutions for the public realm.


Citysquared seminar at Cityscape 2007 03.10.2006

Citysquared is pleased to announce that it has been asked to deliver a seminar at the Cityscape 2007 urban regeneration conference. The seminar, entitled “Happiness is...? Re-thinking Street Furniture”, will be given by Creative Director Tristan Williams on 28th February 2007 as part of the “Designing for Quality Spaces” element of the conference.


Citysquared selected for Castleford Regeneration 12.06.2006

Citysquared has been selected by Hudsons Architects and Wakefield Metropolitan District Council to design and supply various items of bespoke street furniture for the regeneration of Henry Moore Square in Castleford. Henry Moore Square is the centrepiece of a regeneration scheme for the town undertaken by Wakefield Metropolitan District Council in association with Channel Four, who will be airing a series of programmes on the various projects included in the scheme.


Roxy Cafe Screen a hit with Land Securities 23.05.2006

Citysquared’s new Roxy pedestrian screen system has been selected by Land Securities and EPR Architects for installation at Land Securities’ flagship Cardinal Place development in Victoria, London SW1. Citysquared will supply and install over 100 running metres of the screens, which have unique ground fixings to allow the posts to be securely installed during the day and removed and stored overnight. The screens allow the various restaurants in the development to cordon off sections outside of their premises to create more attractive exterior eating areas for their customers.


Citysquared part of the Urban Jungle at Cityscape 01.10.2005

Citysquared was pleased to provide various items of street furniture for the “Urban Jungle” landscaping feature at the Cityscape 2005 conference. The Urban Jungle was designed by David Fountain and featured Citysquared’s Cantilever and Hello Stranger seats, as well as Athos and Porthos bollards.


Citysquared wins Design & Decoration award 21.07.2005

Citysquared is delighted to announce that our Cantilever seat won “Best Outdoor Product” at the 2005 Design & Decoration awards. Our Hello Stranger bench was a runner-up for the same award. The Design & Decoration Awards are one of the UK’s leading independent design awards.
